All advisory committees that are in charge of the Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) are now closed by the new Trump administration.
Acting Secretary Benjamine C. Huffman stated in a memo from January 20, 2025 that “in keeping with the Department of Homeland Security’s ( DHS) commitment to preventing the misuse of assets and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security” and that” all current members of DHS’s advisory committees will be terminated immediately.”
Potential committee activities will be exclusively focused on advancing our crucial mission to protect the country and support DHS’s strategic objectives.
This includes members of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s ( CISA ) Cyber Safety Review Board ( CSRB), which last year released a furious report criticizing Microsoft for a” cascade” of careless errors that resulted in the abuse of its infrastructure by a China-based nation-state group called Storm-0558 to infect dozens of organizations in July 2023.
It released its findings in July 2022 regarding the risks that the Apache Log4j catalogue has exposed, as well as the steps taken to mitigate them. Additionally, it noted that the Log4Shell weakness is an endemic weakness that will plague businesses for years to come.
Therefore in August 2023, the committee the intrusions linked to the LAPSUS$ hacking group, calling out its “effectiveness, speed, creativity, and boldness” and its ability to destroy a “playbook of successful techniques”.
As a public-private effort to determine important security events and make recommendations for improving security and event response practices, CSRB was in February 2022. It’s already not obvious how the investigatory body may be restructured.
The CSRB is said to be in the middle of an exploration into a recent spate of cyberattacks targeting telecommunication companies in the United States, according to separate security journalist .
The USSS Cyber Investigations Advisory Board, Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council, National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, National Infrastructure Advisory Council, and various advisory boards have all been discontinued.
U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wrote in a post on Bluesky that” this is a significant donation to the Chinese scouts who targeted best political numbers.” For the most part, Microsoft’s failure to rein in its security is reminiscent of Donald Trump’s$ 1 billion gift to the inaugural committee, according to the board’s criticism.
U. S. President Donald Trump has also revoked the Biden administration’s on artificial intelligence ( AI ) safety, which, among other things, advocated for the safe, secure, and trustworthy development and use of the technology.
