Google has announced the release of scam detection features based on artificial intelligence ( AI ) to safeguard Android device users and their personal data.
These features precisely target verbal scams, which can frequently appear harmless before turning into a dangerous situation, according to Google. More phone call scammers are using spoofing methods to conceal their true numbers and act as if they are legitimate businesses.
The business said it has collaborated with monetary institutions to develop AI models that can detect suspicious patterns and give real-time warnings over the course of a dialogue without sacrificing customer privacy. This will enable it to better understand the nature of scams that customers are engaged in.
These models operate entirely on-device, preventing consumers from being notified of a potential scam. People then have the choice of rejecting or reporting and blocking the recipient. The default setting is only applicable to interactions with phone numbers that aren’t included in the phone’s contact list.
The software giant added that Google and carriers are able to share user information and new messages with that sender if they choose to flag a chat as spam and that user conversations remain private.
The function will first be available in English in the U.S., U.K., and Canada, with plans for a larger release in English afterwards.
Additionally, all English-speaking Pixel 9+ customers in the United States will now be able to use a fraud detection feature, which was in November 2024.
