California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit on Friday to prevent Elon Musk’s Department of Government Performance from gaining access to national payment systems that hold sensitive personal information about Americans.
One of the 13 Democrat attorneys general who vowed a moment earlier to file legal action is Bonta.
No matter how rich they are or how many businesses they’ve led,” President Trump has no legal, legal, or governmental authority to increase unauthorized access to the payment system for social appointees or unique government employees,” according to Bonta.
On Friday night, the White House did not respond to a request for comment right away.
Musk, the world’s richest man, was picked by President Donald Trump to shrink the size of the U. S. authorities.
Expand has access to sensitive repayment information within the Treasury Department in addition to seizing payer data and posing as the agency’s shutter.
According to Bonta, federal law purely restricts access to a limited group of civil servants who have appropriate approvals because the Treasury Department’s repayment program is” critical, sensitive, and unquestionably vital to the financial stability and security of our society.”
According to Bonta, the attorneys general’s lawsuit calls for an instant end to” this dangerous entry” and to permanently stop political appointees, specific government employees, or people outside the Treasury Department from accessing the data.
We know what Musk and his team could do with this more exposure, Bonta said. ” With a click of a button, they may block federal funds for health care, child care and other important service”, he continued. They” may interfere with the billions of dollars that states rely on for network repairs, public education, and law police.”
” We didn’t rush around and see what Expand does with our data”, Bonta said. ” We need to guard it then”.
Joining Bonta in the complaint were the attorneys general of Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Vermont.
